Cherry Hill, situated on the far west side of Roanoke and bordering Salem, is an established neighborhood known for its single-story homes set on spacious lots. The area features hilly streets without curbs or sidewalks, and homes are primarily in ranch-style, Cape Cod or split-level designs. Some properties also have full basements or covered carports. Despite a historical exodus due to school zoning changes, many residents have remained for generations. Cherry Hill's residential streets are mostly separated from the industrial areas and rail lines that are to the south. Other local highlights include Strauss Park in nearby Wilmont, which features tennis courts, a baseball diamond and a playground. The Mason Creek Greenway trailhead is 2 miles west. Cherry Hill also has access to various walking and biking trails along the Roanoke River and the Blue Ridge Parkway.
