Small farms and new homes enhance the charm of Beaumont
About 20 miles southeast of Lookout Mountain and the Tennessee-Georgia border sits Beaumont, a rural mountain community in Whitfield County, Georgia. Notable for its miles of lush green farmland, mountain views and occasional convenience stores, churches, schools and small subdivisions, Beaumont’s natural rural beauty is one the area's prime draws. A drive through the area shows off small farms, undeveloped grassy fields and clusters of hundred-year-old oak trees that line the winding roads between pockets of single-family homes.
While quiet and rural, Beaumont is about 20 miles southeast of Chattanooga, which is one of its major assets, according to Deane Clayton, Realtor with Coldwell Banker Kinard Realty and a real estate agent for 22 years. “Beaumont has a lot going for young families because it offers Catoosa County schools which are ranked as National Registry Schools of Excellence. Another reason folks like to live here is because it's centrally located between Chattanooga, Ringgold and Dalton, which all have major employers.”
Locals enjoy camping, fishing, hiking and motorcycle rides around North Georgia
A home in the country provides opportunities to take advantage of the great outdoors. Campgrounds and hiking trails are plentiful, particularly along Little Chickamauga Creek. Westside Park is also known as “Miracle Field,” thanks to its state-of-the-art baseball fields that welcome people with physical or mental disabilities to play ball. The park also features batting cages, a fishing lake, a four-mile walking trail and a popular disc golf course. Nearby Houston Valley OHV Trails is one of the area's most unique outdoor recreational spots. This 25-mile trail on the southeast side of Beaumont welcomes motorized vehicles to Georgia's largest system of off-highway vehicle trails.
From farms to farmhouses and brand-new single-family homes
Beaumont features a mix of family farms, rural homes on 1 to 10 acres, and small subdivisions of relatively new single-family homes with large lots. Cottage-style farmhouses on 2 to 15 acres have recently sold for about $192,000 to $210,000. Ranch-style homes have recently sold from about $216,000 to $265,000. New single-family homes have recently sold from $290,000 to $329,000. For buyers considering building their new home, Beaumont offers wooded lots from about 0.5 acres to 4 acres that have recently sold from about $10,000 to $100,000.
Around the corner or up to Chattanooga, events are plentiful
While Beaumont may feel like a secluded neighborhood, the community offers many ways to stay connected. Wood Station Community Center offers a gym and athletic programs for residents to come together for friendly competition. It also hosts events, such as the Fall Festival and the Fireworks Fest, which include food vendors, arts-and-crafts and live music. With Chattanooga just about 20 miles away, residents can enjoy festivals, concerts and local attractions, including cruises along Chickamauga Lake. Chattanooga Market is a popular weekend destination with more than 50 local and regional vendors offering produce, art and live music.
Groceries, gifts and grills can all be found in Beaumont
After school and work, locals can find commercial shopping spots clustered together on the north side of Beaumont, along Alabama Highway. Mega Star Food Mart and Dollar General have groceries and dry goods and are located adjacent to a U-Haul dealer and an RV storage facility. Lily & Rose Home Decor and Gifts offers an array of curiosities, from hand-painted birdhouses to hand-sewn dishtowels.
For lunch or dinner, residents visit Pie Slingers Pizzeria to the west for mouthwatering Italian cuisine or Tunnel Vision Sports Bar & Grill to the east for juicy burgers with a side of pool and darts. The Village Goat is a lively, locally owned restaurant and bar known for its chicken wings, specialty burgers and southern-style appetizers.
Highly rated Catoosa County Schools serve Beaumont students
Students in Beaumont can attend public schools in the Catoosa County School District, which has a B-plus grade from Niche and is ranked the second-best school district in the Chattanooga area. Woodstation Elementary brings kids together with talent shows, family nights and community events, including book fairs. Heritage Middle offers strong athletic programs, including competitive teams in wrestling and dance. Heritage High participates in student organizations such as the National English Honor Society and Future Business Leaders of America. Each of these schools has a Niche grade of B-plus.
Chattanooga Airport is just 20 miles north
While predominantly rural, Beaumont residents have several public transportation options courtesy of Whitfield County. Whitfield County Transit Service offers buses to take residents to medical appointments, on errands or to visit family who live in the county. Several charter bus services are available, as are private taxi companies. Chattanooga Airport is about twenty miles north of Beaumont and offers daily non-stop flights to Chicago, Las Vegas, Dallas, Washington, D.C. and Charlotte.
There are numerous houses of worship in and around Beaumont
New residents of Beaumont are often surprised to find plenty of nearby houses of worship. Long drives to Chattanooga for worship and community prayer services are no longer the norm as they were decades ago. Within a five-mile radius of Beaumont are Baptist, Methodist, Christian, Catholic, Episcopal, Pentecostal and non-denominational churches. Between Beaumont and Chattanooga, that number easily triples.
