Why Live in Placida
Placida is known for its easy access to boating, beaches and sandbars on southwest Florida's Gulf Coast. This former fishing village holds on to the "old Florida" vibe that defines Charlotte County's coastal communities. "It's not super high-end; it's a comfortable place to live," says Amy Mendez, broker associate with Century 21 Sunbelt Realty, who has lived in nearby Punta Gorda for 6 years. "You've got pockets of higher-end, million-dollar homes on the water, but overall, it's just got a very comfortable, down-to-earth feel." The neighborhood is wedged between Coral Creek and Placida Harbor, with canals leading out to the deep water. Luxury waterfront homes feature coastal designs with pastel blues and wrap-around porches. "Most have sailboat access, which means no major bridges to go under," Mendez says. Homes are also perched on the fairways at Lemon Bay Golf Club. These can go for up to $3 million. Other houses, condos, and townhouses have similar views for a lower price range. Newer Mediterranean-style properties feature large and well-maintained front yards. The median price is about $690,000 for single-family homes, and about $600,000 for townhouses. Several 55-and-up
