Lake ToHo is the largest lake in the county
Residents enjoy access to the largest lake in Osceola County. Lake ToHo’s 22,700 acres offers nautical adventures throughout the year, whether it’s boats racing across the water, pontoons floating lazily on a sunny day or anglers patrolling the water in search of the their next big catch. The latter is especially popular, as the lake is known as one of the best bass-fishing destinations in the country. If more relaxing recreation is the goal, Lakefront Park downtown features popular paved trails for walkers, runners and bike riders. A fishing pier and playground are additional amenities. The park hosts large-scale community events, including the city’s signature Fourth of July celebration, the Kissimmee Festival of Lights and an annual chili cook-off in February. It’s also the site of regular family-oriented events. “Every Friday, the city puts on a movie at the park and it draws, I would say, thousands of people,” Fernandez says. Oaks National Golf Club is open to the public and features an 18-hole, par-72 course that winds its way for 6,800 yards through century-old oaks and water hazards that present an enjoyable challenge. Golf course, waterfront homes highlight the residential options
The neighborhood is made up primarily of contemporary custom homes that dot a landscape highlighted by mature oak trees. Homes grace quiet, walkable subdivisions and come standard with driveways, attached garages and cozy front yards. Pools are common sights in larger backyards. “There’s peace and tranquility,” says Jana Lee Klimek, a real estate agent with Coldwell Banker Southwest Orlando who has lived in Central Florida for more than 25 years. “This is a very nice area where families enjoy first-, second- and even third-generation living. People are moving here and putting down roots.” Golf course homes are among the neighborhood’s largest. Waterfront homes come in a variety of sizes and typically feature private docks that provide direct access to the lake. Prices range from the mid-$300,000s to the low $600,000s. Condos starting in the mid-200,000s and newly built townhouses in the mid-$300,000s also can be found. Taxes in Osceola County are lower than those in Orange County, so compared to neighboring Orlando, Kissimmee’s housing offers relative affordability.

Latin restaurants are common; downtown offers a diverse selection
Roughly 70 percent of Kissimmee’s population is Hispanic, and that influence is notably reflected in its dining options. Featured neighborhood stops include Maracas, a Dominican bistro and buffet, and El Primo La Casa De Las Alcapurrias, which offers Puerto Rican favorites for diners on the go. Several other Latin eateries highlight the diverse options in historic downtown Kissimmee. “It’s very quaint with a lot of good restaurants,” says Klimek of the commercial district. “It’s a fun little space.” Residents can grab a sandwich and a coffee at Buchito, a highly rated Cuban restaurant, enjoy surf and turf in a casual setting at 2 Brother’s Steakhouse and sample the Asian fusion offerings over drinks and live music at 3 Sisters Speakeasy. While residents enjoy the slow pace of neighborhood life, Kissimmee’s well-known attractions are just minutes away. “There’s also easy access to get in and out and enjoy the city,” Klimek says. U.S. Highway 17, also known as John Young Parkway, borders the neighborhood’s west side and provides access north to U.S. Highway 192, which leads directly to Disney about 10 miles from the neighborhood. The parkway also leads south to points of interest that include Davenport, Haines City and Lake Wales. As Kissimmee has become more residential over the years, those cities have become Central Florida’s newest vacation destinations. Public transportation is available in the form of buses and a commuter train. A SunRail station is located in downtown Kissimmee, and that line leads directly to downtown Orlando’s Central Business District. Orlando International Airport is about 15 miles away.
