Why Live in Sunset

Embedded inside a commercial corridor about 5 miles from downtown San Angelo, Sunset offers an abundance of both retail and commuting options. Residents have access to shopping malls, restaurants and a variety of grocery and department stores along Business Route 67. The bustling roadway merges onto State Route 306, or the 306 Loop, in one direction and the Houston Harte Expressway in the other. These major thoroughfares connect locals to other parts of West Texas. While business space takes up half of Sunset, the other half provides residential lanes for retirees, students and other San Angelo locals. “People move here to enjoy the lake, or if they’re affiliated with the university or the Air Force base. The cost of living is something anyone would appreciate,” says Ray McKim, a Certified Professional Landman who has lived in San Angelo for 40 years. “The city has ranching roots, and it still has an old-school ranching way of thinking. But our economic pillars today are Lake Nasworthy, ASU and Goodfellow.” While Lake Nasworthy is a popular swimming and boating lake south of the neighborhood, Angelo State University and Goodfellow Air Force Base are located to the east.
