Before Akron had seven distinct high school zones, it started with four — North, South, Central, and West. North High School was Akron’s fourth zone. Today, it serves over 900 students in grades nine through 12th who live in Akron’s North Hill and Chapel Hill neighborhoods or open enroll from other areas of the city. The campus also houses a preschool for students aged 3 to 5. North’s current building, located at the corner of Tallmadge Avenue and Gorge Boulevard, was built in 1931. In 1955, its annex was constructed with an auditorium, gymnasium and cafeteria. The original building is noted for its unique art deco tile work along the entryway featuring depictions of people, flowers and industrial scenes. North, whose mascot is the Viking, offers its students a wide range of academic and extracurricular programs. It provides full inclusion for special education students, team teaching and group counseling. Like all Akron Public Schools, North students also receive free Chromebooks. North High School has scored high in the progress component in recent years, indicating that its students are making strides and improving test scores yearly. The school was also the first Akron Public School to fully implement the College and Career Academies program, which readies students for higher education and high-demand careers.

I went to North High School all 4 years of high school. The best part of high school was the teachers and relationships I made with them as they showed deep love and care for their students. The hardest part of going to North High school was the clear lack of funding. The school is very old and in poor condition with ceiling tiles falling constantly exposing students and staff to asbestos. Not to mention the leaks pipe bursts, and issues with heat. The school itself is in no condition for future generations.

First, it wasn't so great because when we had field trip to visit north high school. It seemed old and everything was broken but later on they started to fix them and start to look better. The teachers are amazing. This school have many career pathways that student can pick. It really good for them who's thinking about college because it's worth it. It helps students from early stage of educations.

I love how much diversity North has, the teachers are very helpful and try very hard to help keep the students grades up and help them understand the things that we're learning more. Although I don't like how the school is so old , that's the only thing I would like to change, just build a new school but other than that I love it.
