Wines Elementary is one of 20 elementary schools in the Ann Arbor Public School District located on Newport Road. The school serves kindergarten through fifth grade and is also one of 13 schools in the state of Michigan to be designated a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. The award highlights schools that work hard to bridge gaps in learning success among student groups, along with showcasing teaching methods that help students excel. Wines Elementary teachers work together to review student progress and fine-tune their efforts to help students succeed.
The school's core curriculum focuses on English language arts, mathematics, science, Spanish, music and social studies. Wines Elementary School also offers extended day activities for students including learning the basics of robotics.
Wines Elementary is also developing a new therapy dog program. Some of the events staged by the school staff and volunteers include a healthy focused Run-A-Thon, evening concerts and a school spirit week with a different theme for each day of the week.
