Antioch Elementary School (AES) is a top performing school serving more than 800 students in kindergarten through fifth grade. The school is part of Union County public schools (UCPS) and is located on the northwestern border of Weddington in a modern building constructed in 2004, with a wing added in 2006. Students study the state’s curriculum in classical subjects such as English, math, social studies, art and physical education. Students receive special coursework in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) topics; academically gifted programming serves qualifying students, and an exceptional children program offers speech, occupational and physical therapy for selected students. AES is one of several UCPS schools to provide all students beginning in kindergarten with a Spanish language immersion program, which offers students the opportunity to develop literacy in two languages, English and Spanish, across all subject areas. My child attended Antioch K-5th grade. She had caring, compassionate teachers, and was challenged and encouraged every day. There were many enrichment opportunities provided by teachers and she had a wonderful experience.
