Surrounded by a canopy of oak trees in a residential Burke neighborhood, Nativity Catholic School first welcomed students in 1996. After adding a preschool in 2003 and undergoing an expansion to include a gym, art studio, media center and STEM lab in 2016, the private school enrolls an average of 260 students in grades pre-K through eighth grade, with a student-teacher ratio of 12-to-1.
Accredited by the Virginia Catholic Education Association and honored as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence in 2008, Nativity Catholic is driven by the following commitment: “To infuse Christ-centered values into the everyday curriculum of a challenging and demanding academic environment. Whether in 8th grade or kindergarten, the students have the opportunity to look at people, culture and movements through the eyes of a child of God.”
While Christian virtues are incorporated into all areas of school life, rigorous academics are equally prioritized. Elementary students focus on science, art, composition, math, literature, social studies and Spanish. The middle school curriculum is lauded for its personalized approach, specifically the advanced math and Spanish options, lab-centric science courses and a learning resource program to support students with learning needs.
Extracurricular opportunities abound, including broadcasting, Battle of the Books Club, Catholic Youth Organization basketball, garden committee, Math Olympiads, band and student council.
