St. Peter School (SPS) is a private elementary school serving about 150 students annually in preschool through fifth grade. Located in the heart of the Arts District in Downtown Canton, St. Peter is operated by the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown and is open to students of all faiths. The school emphasizes a STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) curriculum and offers small class sizes, with a student-to-teacher ratio of 20-to-1. Outdoor education takes place in the school garden while education in the arts is enhanced through a partnership with ArtsinStark, a countywide arts advocacy organization. Tuition assistance is available through a variety of scholarships, vouchers and other funding sources, including the Youngstown Diocesan Catholic School Fund and local parish support. Busing is provided by the Canton City School District for students living within the district boundaries. Students at SPS have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of sports and compete against other schools through the Stark County Catholic Schools Athletic Program. Additional extracurricular activities include field trips, music, Boy Scouts, Spanish and more. Students are also encouraged to participate in service projects such as food drives, decorating lunch bags for local military veterans and making cards for residents in area nursing homes.
