It’s full STEAM ahead at Leaphart Elementary School, a public magnet school that offers a creative learning environment for students in the Irmo and Seven Oaks areas. Going beyond STEM, STEAM adds an “A” for arts-integrated instruction in science, technology, engineering and math courses, giving students a more robust and accelerated curriculum. As a magnet school, Leaphart Elementary helps students acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to exceed South Carolina state content standards. Students are engineers, using a design process to solve problems, think critically, create and overcome real-world challenges. By using the four-step process of plan, design, test and communicate, students make connections between core subjects, using art as a vehicle for better understanding. Leaphart Elementary is also a Green Steps School for environmental education. Ongoing projects in recycling and lessons about protecting the environment, along with the school’s annual Green STEAM Day, which help students become more environmentally responsible. With the mission to help students “discover ways to solve problems, design solutions through an investigative process, and develop the skills needed for future success,” Leaphart Elementary School is great public magnet school option just outside of Columbia.

My son has been here since Kindergarten, he always gets super excited when school is starting back after the summer, he enjoys being in the same classes with his friends, and im happy the school encourages lasting community connections. Way to go Leaphart!!

This school condones bullying. No matter how many times you report it nothing will be done about it. My niece has been experiencing other kids hitting, pushing and threatening to kill her and nothing has been done to protect her.

I have had children at Leaphart for going on 5 years now and I cannot speak highly enough of the teachers and administration.
