Dekalb Preparatory Academy is located on Austin Drive in Decatur, Georgia, and serves the neighborhood of Belvedere Park. This public charter school serves almost 600 students in kindergarten through eighth grade and has an average class size of around 13 students. Dekalb Preparatory Academy implements Gold Standard project-based learning which involves research-based teaching approaches and project design elements and instructional practices for the classroom. Dekalb Prep also offers a wide array of special programs—their Audio/Video Communications Program teaches students the skills needed for the production process for television, film, commercials, and other media productions. With their literacy program, Dekalb Prep takes an intimate approach to support the students’ needs in reading, writing and comprehension by providing support for students with help from their literacy coach, literacy specialist and certified teachers. They also have a health and wellness program that focuses on nutrition education and physical activity. The school also offers a number of clubs and activities including STEM Club, volleyball, basketball, football, Junior Beta club, dance and cheer, and a DIY club. Dekalb Preparatory Academy has made a ton of academic progress in recent years and has been recognized as one of the schools with the biggest increase in performance in the state of Georgia for college readiness. As the school evolves, the students and faculty will continue to follow their vision of creating an academically rigorous, educationally creative, culturally relevant and engaging learning environment.

Top rated horrible school! They allow the children to be bullied and assaulted and do absolutely nothing but banned concerned parents from the school grounds and stop answering phone calls. They keep no records of the abuse unless you ask them to record your child’s abuse! The school needs to be clo...

This school doesn’t care about the children’s safety or if they learn anything. They just want a check. Let something go wrong, everybody covers it up and gives you the run around!

Do not send your children here; the front office staff is extremely rude and difficult. The teachers lack passion. They have young teachers fighting on premises. Honestly, this school needs to be shut down!
