I'm a student here. If you're a minority student, I'd say to be wary going here. I'm lgbt, and I've been harassed and bullied by students, some of which run down the halls screaming, and others of which simply punch people in the stomach. These students are rarely punished. Most of the teachers are polite, and the range of activities is okay, but there's much to be desired.

The school offers numerous extracurricular opportunities, such as its music programs, numerous sports, and other opportunities, and there are many students that are committed to each of the clubs.

Being predominantly an art and writing student, I valued the Art Club, the News Magazine and the Literary Magazine. They were top quality clubs, run by the better teachers at the school.

Not bad cirriculum but can be a working parent an have your child in between two buses because they wont work with you. You basically have to be living off welfare with no interest in working.

To all the reviewers who say the teachers aren't giving challenging work: The pressure to "dumb down" everything is coming from "the top"- teachers are upset about it but afraid to say anything. My grandaughter is a special needs child and I really don't feel Halifax Schools are doing right by her. She is going to second grade next year and she hasn't done what is required of first grade. I don't want her lost in the school system for the next twelve years.

As a former student, Halifax is certainly a town where politics dominates both academically and athletically. Also, some teachers, especially in the HS, cannot teach and compensate by giving pointless projects and absurdly easy tests (even at honors level). Almost all teachers have too many classes...
