Ida G. Diaz Junior High School, home of the Buccaneers, is a middle school campus located in Hidalgo, Texas on Pirate Drive. Built in 1983, the school is named after Ida Diaz. In the 2000s, the school underwent a period of extensive renovations. Today, it employs a staff of more than 50 educators, administrators and staff. The school serves grades six through eight and has a total of 630 students in attendance.
Students study a wide variety of subjects, from English to social studies, as well as technology, Spanish and physical education. Extracurricular activities include competitive sports, band, National Junior Honor Society, a book club and more. In the classroom setting, the student-to-teacher ratio is 13-to-1.
