My overall experience of Hilo High School is that it is very welcoming to everyone. There are also lots of different classes that anyone can take.

I feel that the teachers I've had throughout my high school career at Hilo high school were very helpful in academics but also personal support. In my opinion I feel that the school could do better with troubled kids and how they affect the rest of the school and it's reputation.

I enjoyed my 4 years in high school. Although I didn't get too close my teachers I still enjoyed taking their classes as they are quite relaxed and flexible at times with late homework. I've had lots of good and bad experiences. One good experience I would say I had was probably the school lots and events. Such as the homecoming lots and maydays. We would go to the school pool or go to our school gymnasium to watch some fun activities. Overall a good way to get out of class and have some fun.

Hilo High is one awful institution. A new principal was installed a couple of years ago and the school which had a lot of problems to begin with took a further plunge. College counseling is non-existent at this school, not just that, counselors actively sabotage students' efforts to develop resumes...

It's ok, but we are lucky to be able to take college level courses at HCC and UH Hilo. Admin leadership is nonexistent; it's a total shame, as there are good students here, they just need the opportunities.

My son took as many AP classes as he could and was fully ready to thrive at a private East Coast selective university. Performing Arts Learning Center program was a key resource for him, both socially and artistically.
