Edison Middle School has been educating Magnolia Park’s sixth through 8th-grade students since 1925. This Houston Independent School District (HISD) campus is the neighborhood’s only middle school campus, serving more than 600 Magnolia Park students each year. As in other schools in Magnolia Park, Edison Middle School is in a walkable area mostly lined by the neighborhood’s signature 1930s-era bungalows. The school offers a variety of programming, including bilingual, English as a Second Language (ESL), Gifted and Talented, pre-AP, and special education programs. In 2018-2019, the most recent year data was available, Edison Middle School was given an “F” rating by the Texas Education Agency. Today, the school is striving to promote the academic success of every student. In fact, Edison Middle School was recognized by HISD in 2020-2021 for its commitment to partnering with community members to help students flourish academically. Plus, Edison Middle School’s robust after-school programming adds a lot to the student experience inside and outside the classroom. The campus offers everything from drumline and soccer to mural and science workshops.
