Lyman Moore Middle School is on Auburn Street, adjacent to Lyseth Elementary School and just north of the shops at Northgate Plaza. The middle school enrolls just under 500 students in grades six through eight. The school serves the North Deering neighborhood, as well as Portland’s Munjoy Hill area.
This North Deering school boasts higher than average test scores and was ranked as the second most diverse middle school in Maine by Niche. The school offers students several choices in world languages—students can choose from Spanish, French or American Sign Language. Eighth graders also have the opportunity to study Latin.
Lyman Moore Middle School’s mascot is the Falcon. Students at Lyman Moore can choose from a variety of sports, including cross country, tennis, soccer, field hockey, basketball, Nordic skiing, swimming, wrestling, lacrosse and volleyball. Clubs include the Black Student Union, Model United Nations and the school newspaper, Through the Falcon’s Eyes.

Best middle school in Portland ME, I have been really satisfied with my experience there. I have been to the other two middle schools in Portland and Lyman Moore has been my favorite. My sanctuary were my friends and teachers encourage me to do my best.

I've had two children attend Moore. The staff, teachers, and administrators are engaged, helpful, and truly care about the students. There are a lot of extracurricular activities. It's just a really happy place for the kids.
