Mockingbird Elementary is a Dallas Independent School District school for children in kindergarten through fifth grade. The school building was originally built in 1939 and is considered a landmark in East Dallas.
Everyone from administration to teachers to support staff strives to help the students achieve academic excellence. Mockingbird Elementary was nationally recognized and was awarded the National Blue Ribbon. Student test scores are continuously high enough to earn the TEA Exemplary School and TEA Recognized School designations.
Also part of Mockingbird Elementary is the Dallas Regional Day School for the Deaf. Here, students can attend full inclusion classrooms and receive special instructional arrangements. Each student can receive a comprehensive education and participate in extracurricular activities.
Mockingbird Elementary has several University Interscholastic League teams that compete in district UIL competitions throughout the school year. In addition to the UIL academic teams, there is a show choir program.
Students and faculty love Mockingbird Elementary's outdoor science lab, complete with a garden. The garden has fun learning features like a greenhouse and compost area. Classes can grow food and fiber crops in their designated garden row. Parents can support the outdoor science lab and garden by volunteering through the school.

Incredible school with a close community. This year mockingbird was over crowded due to Geneva construction but should resume to previous class sizes.

It was a great school socially but there wasn’t a lot of opportunities for more one on one learning such as after school tutoring.

Highly involved faculty and parents. Our daughter absolutely loves it. She has appreciated seeing other kids who look like her (her old school was not diverse).
