Success Academy Charter School Upper West is a public school that serves students in kindergarten through fourth grade. It occupies the second floor of a building that hosts several other public schools: Louis D. Brandeis High School, Frank McCourt High School, Urban Assembly School for Green Careers and Innovation Diploma Plus High School. At Success Academy Charter School Upper West, STEM instruction starts in kindergarten and continues into every grade, including field trips to nearby buildings and bridges to study engineering concepts. Chess is also a common activity in all Success Academy schools, and the Success Academy Soccer program involves over 6,000 student players across the school system. The school is one of 47 New York City charter schools operated by Success Academy, which began in 2006 as Harlem Success Academy and was an early pioneer in the city’s charter school movement. Supported by public money and philanthropy and often profiled in the media and in documentaries, Success Academy receives several applications for every available seat in its charter schools, with students chosen through a lottery system.

It's a school that genuinely prepares you for college. While it is harsh and strict it is what sets you up right for college.

My son did k-4 at the UWS location. We left in 2024. My husband and I are both high income, highly educated people. Neither of us went to private school growing up. This school is utterly unsupportive of students with IEPs. They lack empathy for children and are willing to expel them from school instead of collaborating with parents. It’s the worst school in the Bronx! The assistant principal and principal disregard my child’s needs and make him feel unwelcome....
