Opened in 2003, Cranberry Elementary School is a public Sarasota County school that teaches prekindergarten through fifth grade. Students are encouraged to practice the school’s values: be respectful, be responsible, be ready to learn. Every quarter, children who model these behaviors are celebrated and receive prizes throughout the year. The school also recognizes students who make the honor roll and who are given awards during quarterly assemblies. Academic Olympics competitions let students show off newly learned skills and earn prizes.
Students can complement their academic learning with classwork in art, music and media. The school has a science lab and four computer labs. The school grounds also contain a vegetable garden and a butterfly garden. Students tend to and harvest vegetables and observe the habits of pollinators. Off-site, second grade students take swim lessons. On campus, students get exercise in physical education classes and during extracurricular activities like a fun run. Uniforms are mandatory at Cranberry, whose colors are navy and white.
