Cheverus High School is a private Catholic high school serving ninth through 12th grade in Back Cove. The Diocese of Portland oversees the school. Academics are rigorous at the school, which offers classes at Advanced Placement, Honors and College Prep levels. Cheverus provides a unique STEM Diploma that guides students to college and career readiness in the science, technology, engineering and math fields. Students may elect to take advantage of a Dual Enrollment program, where they can earn college credit for select courses through an agreement with St. Joseph’s College of Maine in nearby Standish.
Student life at Cheverus integrates faith and service into typical high school activities, sports programs and clubs. Cheverus seniors participate in a project during the last month of school and spend the time at various locations in the community – schools, day care centers, nursing homes and hospitals – working directly with members of those institutions. An active social media presence covers the school’s local and community activities.
Cheverus’ mission to prepare its students to care for others by fostering intellectual, spiritual, physical and personal excellence is demonstrated throughout the school’s curriculum and programming.

The academic rigor is very important to Cheverus. It can be hard at times but it's definitely a great education. The religious aspect is a significant part of the school but is not overly forced upon anyone which is refreshing. Kids come from all different middle schools and towns making it easier to make friends. Athletics are very impressive especially in girls sports; hockey, field hockey, football, soccer, basket ball, etc.

Cheverus fosters academic excellence and competition within their students. Sometimes unhealthy competition but always with proper motivation. Most of the teachers enjoy their job and have a strong teaching curriculum though so lack respect and understanding of the individuals needs.
