Although Coronado High School (Coronado) underwent major renovations a decade ago to reinvent the campus for the 21st century, you can still see what this public school used to look like in the 1989 cult classic “Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure,” when it stood in for San Dimas High School as a main filming location. Most notably in the movie, the school reflects its original mid-century design by renowned Phoenix architect Ralph Haver. You’ll also see Coronado’s iconic 520-square-foot tile mosaic “Seven Arts,” by artist Joe Gatti, which now dons the front of the new Performing Arts Building. This unique feature is even visible via Google Maps in 3D mode. Today, Coronado serves roughly 700 students in ninth through 12th grades as part of the Scottsdale Unified School District, and neighbors the scenic and sprawling Eldorado Park. Here, students can excel in academics through Advanced Placement, honors, and dual enrollment classes, or explore their creative sides in a renowned performing and visual arts program. The school’s award-winning Jobs for Arizona’s Graduates (JAG) program helps students pursue their post-graduation careers. As for extracurriculars, students can thrive and bond in dance, drama, Key Club, band, vocal ensemble, eSports Club, and National Honor Society, among others. The school’s on-campus athletics amenities include two ball fields, eight tennis courts, and a football stadium with a track course. Within its vibrant environment, Coronado High School strives to prepare students well for the future.

There are a few select teachers that make learning fun. However, over the years, the students have stopped trying and the school does not get a lot of funding.

I went to this school for four years and graduated with honors. This school was amazing, as were the teachers that taught me. I didn't see what the other reviewers were referring to, because when I went there, the teachers motivated me, especially when I did poorly on a test. Before this school, I h...
