The student body at the John Paulding School may be the youngest in the district, but they are definitely among the brightest students in Tarrytown. Named after a local Revolutionary War hero, the school exclusively serves students in prekindergarten through first grade and is located on the crest of a ridge overlooking Broadway, Patriot’s Park and the Hudson River.
Centrally located next to Sleepy Hollow High School and the school district offices, the John Paulding School is a great option for early education in the Tarrytown neighborhood. With a student population of just under 200 and 18 full-time teachers, class sizes are small and instruction is tailored to the unique needs of each student. The developmental, language-based prekindergarten and kindergarten programs take into account that each child learns at their own pace, and the school strives to provide each student with the social, emotional, physical and cognitive skills they need to succeed.
While adhering to New York State’s Common Core standards, teachers at the school present learning opportunities through a multi-sensory, interdisciplinary approach. The John Paulding School is where the children of Tarrytown begin their learning journey, and these young minds reflect the school district’s motto of the three R’s: readiness, respect and responsibility.

John Paulding is a very good school, with a lot of diversity. the Principal is very good also the superintendent. However the tarrytown bus transportation is a nightmare....we moved out from that town because of that.
