Why Live in Midtown Springfield

With its century-old homes and few commercial areas, Midtown Springfield is a neighborhood that bridges the city's past and present. The south side is home to Drury University, which provides the area with a small college-town atmosphere. The north side transitions into the Commercial Street Historic District, or C-Street, known for its locally-owned shops and restaurants. Notable dining options include Van Gogh's Eeterie, Lindberg's Tavern and Big Momma's Coffee & Espresso Bar. The neighborhood is also close to major employers like Cox North Hospital and city government. Midtown Springfield has two of the city's oldest parks, Washington Park and Silver Springs Park, both of which offer unique historical and recreational amenities. In addition to its picturesque gazebo and basketball and tennis courts, Washington Park hosts the annual Old Fashioned 4th of July Parade and Celebration. Silver Springs Park, part of the African American Heritage Trail, includes a playground and swimming pool. It also hosts the annual Park Day Reunion. The C-Street City Market runs every Saturday and Thursday from April to October, providing local produce and artisan goods. The highly-walkable neighborhood's tree-lined streets are lined by bungalows, Craftsmans and Tudor cottages, as well as newer ranch-style homes. The highly-rated Central High School offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme and Missouri's A+ Scholarship Program.
