Suburb offers a diversity of homes
Syracuse's Northside area covers the broad stretch north of Interstate 690 between Lakefront and Eastwood. "James Street, north of Salina Avenue, is a historic area," says T.J. Perkins, an associate real estate broker with Acropolis Realty Group who was born and raised in Syracuse. Northside is also near St. Joseph's Hospital, which is a driving economic factor." This suburban landscape has wide, tree-lined gridded streets with sidewalks.

From Victorians to bungalows
Stately Victorians and Tudors dating back to the 20s can be found in the Sedgwick area. Residents who won these homes receive an additional perk, a tax break to offset the costs of maintaining historic homes. Moving west toward Lakefront into the Washington Square neighborhood and north toward Lyncourt, homes are smaller, and pricing reflects these changes. "Lots are small here," Perkins says. "All less than ¼ acre." Old-style homes also grace the neighborhood, comprising bungalows and Colonial revivals. Many homes do not have garages, and prices range from $45,000 to $469,000. "Currently, Inventory is down as it is all over Syracuse," Perkins says

Northside features a wide variety of international restaurants, including Caribbean, East African and traditional American, to name a few. Stella's Diner on the west side of town is a popular spot for American comfort foods in a nostalgic setting. The renowned cartoon character Betty Boop graces the diner's menus, mugs and other memorabilia. Authentic Italian dining is on the menu at Francesca's Cucina, a locally beloved restaurant known for its daily scallops special, chicken riggies and famous butter cake served à la mode and drizzled with strawberry sauce. One of Perkins' favorite eateries is Biscotti Cafe & Pastry Shop, which serves soups, sandwiches and a variety of Italian pastries. Residential life prevails in Northside.
