Named for Charles Townshend, a former British Secretary of State whose family helped fan the flames of the Revolutionary War, the post-industrial community of Townsend is known today for its country feel. Once a center of manufacturing and farming, Townsend was also a proud village of Yankees that sent nearly 100 men to fight in Concord after the British arrived in 1755.
