Neighboring Davis-Monthan and Reid Park
Named for a Tucson schoolteacher who helped feed over 200 children a day during World War I, the Julia Keen neighborhood adds to Tucson's reputation for charity and community building. Incoming residents tend to stick around for years in this culturally diverse segment of central Tucson that backs up directly to Davis Monthan Air Force Base. "It's an up-and-coming neighborhood... It's also really close to downtown and the university," says Colette Barajas, owner and principal broker at Centra Realty, who has lived in Tuscon since 1974 and sold dozens of homes to future Julia Keen residents. "A lot of the homes need updating, but they're still a good deal in a good neighborhood. The way I see a 'good neighborhood' is when people know one another, when they care about each other and do a welfare check to make sure they're okay."

Noise and movement from Tucson's Air Force base
Proximity to Davis-Monthan means plane activity is a part of life in Julia Keen and throughout Tuscon. "We have a form that people have to sign if you sell a property in Tucson, and at noon in almost any part of town, you'll have to stop talking because of the noise," Barajas chuckles. "And every time there's trouble in the world, which there's so much of nowadays, the activity of the training increases. For everyone, no matter where they live in the city, the house is shaking." A tense band of railroads runs along Aviation Parkway on the southwest end of Julia Keen, which could pose additional noise concerns for some residents.

Sabino Canyon and Mount Lemon are easily accessible. Closer to this area though there is a track at a park that many people walk or jog on. Being that this is in the desert you can always see the desert landscape.

This area is close to downtown so a few minutes drive can get you to bars and clubs. There are several fast food options but then there are also options like Olive Garden, Macaroni Grill, Chili's, and Applebees that are pretty close.

I wouldn't say there is a good job market in Tucson, but that seems to be the case in most of the country currently.
