Why Live in Washington

Washington Township is a rural Burlington County community about an hour from Philadelphia and half an hour from Atlantic City. State forests and nature preserves dominate the landscape. Land parcels can measure 10 acres or more, and a variety of housing styles are available, ranging from ranch-style to Cape Cod. Outdoor lovers can head to Wharton State Forest for hiking, mountain biking, canoeing or kayaking. The Atsion Recreation Area has a boat launch, picnic areas, a swimming beach and a playground for younger kids. At Crowley Landing, you can launch your boat and head over to Sweetwater Marina & Riverdeck on the other side of the Mullica River for pub grub, cocktails and sushi. Penn State Forest and Swan Bay Wildlife Management Area offer wildlife sighting opportunities. This is a car-dependent area, and most people work in one of the surrounding towns. Jobs in retail and tourism are available 20 minutes away in Historic Smithville, and Viking Yacht Company in New Gretna is one of the nation's top boat manufacturers. The Mullica Township School District serves students from prekindergarten through Grade 8, and teens attend the top-rated Cedar Creek High School. Walmart and ShopRite supermarket are about 20 minutes away in Hammonton, along with chain restaurants, gas stations and a small downtown packed with trattorias and wine bars. You can catch trains to Philly and Atlantic City from the platform in Hammonton.
