Carolina Heights offers historic homes in the shadow of Downtown Wilmington
Carolina Heights was originally plotted as a streetcar suburb when trolleys chugged along Wilmington’s compact streets. The neighborhood was developed in the early 20th century and is one of the city’s historic overlay districts, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Today, the area has convenient access to nightlife, shops and attractions in Downtown Wilmington to the west or the retail centers in Central Wilmington to the east and south.

Preserved prewar homes along narrow village streets
Homes are priced from $300,000 to $850,000, varying by age and square footage. “It’s a unique, historical community with bungalow homes from the 1920s, ‘30s and ‘40s,” says Eva Elmore, a Wilmington local and real estate broker with Intracoastal Realty. There is a diverse range of styles, from low-slung bungalows with open porches to Postwar brick ramblers, Cape Cods, American Foursquares, or Tudor and Colonial Revivals. Streets here are narrow and angular with plenty of sidewalks and pine trees, giving it the feel of a shady suburban village. To preserve the community's historic character, properties within the neighborhood’s official zoning boundaries need to undergo a design review by the Historic Preservation Commission before renovations or exterior alterations are made.
