Adamstown is a suburb with spacious lots by Baltimore and Washington
Tucked in a valley between the Sugarloaf and Catoctin mountains is Adamstown, a rural Maryland suburb near Washington, D.C. and Baltimore. Residents in this neighborhood may be close to two urban hubs, but you’d never know. “You feel removed, but you’re not that far from things,” explains sales agent Donna Yocum of Waldner Winters Team of Keller Williams Realty Centre. “It gives you that rural feel.” Realtor Jeff Miles echoes Yocum’s sentiment. “It’s a quiet little town,” says the Remax Results agent who has been selling homes in Maryland for six years. Realtor Chris Mabe of eXp Realty says living in Adamstown allows residents who commute to Baltimore or Washington, D.C., the option to step away from the hustle and bustle. “It gives the flexibility to live in a rural area but work in an urban environment,” Mabe, who has sold homes in Maryland for five years, says. “It’s a nice blend of country and city.”
Colonials, farmhouses and more in Adamstown
According to Yocum, there is a combination of housing styles. “It’s a mix of old and new with traditional colonials, farmhouses, ranchers and split-levels. It’s an interesting area with an interesting mix.” Yocum, who has been selling homes in Maryland for eight years, says. “Parts of Adamstown are spread out. In the last 20-30 years, there have been new developments consisting of traditional colonials on smaller lots.” She adds that the average price of a dwelling in Adamstown is $625,000. In some cases, especially when it comes to the farmhouses that were built in the 70s, lots can be several acres. “If you’re looking for land, this is the place to go,” says Mabe. The topography of Adamstown varies. It’s common to see housing developments next to pastures and farmland. “It’s definitely not cookie-cutter,” Mabe says. Yocum says that many of the streets in the neighborhood are “pretty, rural backroads.”
