Flowers at Graf's
Most people living in West Akron live east of Interstate 77 in a grid of densely packed blocks, but just west of the highway, Graf's Garden Shop, Landscape and Farm Market sells locally sourced goods. "Our family started working the land when my father rented it to grow and sell vegetables," says Lisa Graf, the farm's co-owner and operator. "We eventually bought the land in the 80s and evolved from vegetables to a range of other products." Gardeners are Graf's biggest customers, buying pansies in the spring or mums in the fall. When asked about her experience operating the market, Graf says, "I can step outside at any point in the day and hear customers who would otherwise be strangers share their gardening experience like life-long friends." Her main takeaway, "Gardening breaks down barriers." On the Corner of Vernon Odom Boulevard, Primo's Deli stands as the neighborhood's most iconic sandwich shop. The restaurant's walls are covered in decorations, including a small blimp. The Save A Lot grocery store in the community draws customers with frequent deals and sales. For the traditional mall experience, many drive 5 miles west to Summit Mall on West Market Street.
