Less than 1 mile from Downtown Akron, West Hill is a historic area with landmarks like the Glendale Steps and homes dating back to the 19th century. “This was the most desirable neighborhood at the turn of the century,” says Barbara Snyder, Realtor with Snyder & Snyder Real Estate, whose office is in the neighborhood. Today, West Hill is a mix of residential properties and small businesses. “There’s a nice diversity of population,” Snyder says. “You’ve got all ages, all incomes.” The LeBron James Family Foundation has invested in the neighborhood as well, opening the I Promise School and House Three Thirty, a multiuse property with a music venue, restaurants, recreation center and retail that works closely with the school. Sidewalks and oak trees line the streets, many of which are red brick. Almost every home in West Hill was built in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and is on a small lot. “We’ve got some of the oldest housing stock in Akron, the majority of which was built before 1905,” Snyder says. “As you move west, the homes get a tiny bit newer.” American Foursquares, both with Craftsman and colonial influences, make up most of the neighborhood, and there are some
