While the city’s population has exploded in the past decade, Grace has seen little turnover or new construction, as many homeowners tend to stick around in this friendly community. Scenic views of North Carolina’s Blue Ridge and Black Mountains extend up and around the diverse collection of home styles, and many residents are within walking distance of the neighborhood's main commercial corridor. “Asheville is a growing area, but there’s a certain aspect to the Grace neighborhood that remains steady,” says Luke Mansell, a realtor at Town and Mountain Realty. “There’s an eclectic mix of people, many of whom have lived in these homes their entire life.”

Eclectic homes and lush streets
Homes in Grace are varied and distinct. Historic Craftsman, foursquare and colonial revival houses from the early 1900s sit next to more contemporary midcentury ranchers, bungalows and cape cods. Thick, towering trees and colorful wildflowers envelop Grace's hilly streets, offering residents a sense of privacy and seclusion. Cape Cods, Tudors, and bungalows are also scattered throughout the neighborhood. “The homes are so coveted and so historic,” says Mansell. Housing prices start at $500,000, with larger houses often reaching well over $1 million. Properties rarely stay on the market for very long and are sometimes sold in under 24 hours. “It’s an aggressive market,” confirms Megan Shook, Realtor with Mosaic Community Lifestyle Realty. “There’s a limited inventory of these historic homes, and lots of people want to live in the neighborhood.”

Historic schools in the highly rated Asheville City School System
Local students have a direct pipeline through the highly rated Asheville City School System. Younger students may attend Niche B graded Ira B. Jones Elementary followed by Asheville Middle School, which receives a B-plus from Niche. Asheville High School earns an A-minus rating on Niche and is known for its historic art deco architecture and towering spire featured prominently on the main building. The scenic University of North Carolina’s Asheville Campus is just one mile south of Grace and offers higher education in liberal arts, sciences, and Division 1 athletics. “A feature of the Grace neighborhood is that residents are just up the road from UNC Asheville, close to all the sporting events,” Shook says. The Bulldogs men’s basketball team is coming off a season where they went 27-8, winning the Big South Conference and playing in the NCAA Tournament along the way.

Outdoor exploration on foot, by boat, and by car
Asheville is known for its natural beauty, and Grace is no different. At Lakeview Park, outdoor enthusiasts can explore the trails on foot or the adjacent Beaver Lake by canoe. The Beaver Lake Bird Sanctuary has hundreds of bird species and hosts guided walks throughout the year. Golfers can pop over to the Country Club of Asheville for its picturesque 18-hole course, which features stunning views of downtown Asheville and the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains. Snaking along the towering mountains, the Blue Ridge Parkway is easily accessible from Grace, offering a car-friendly method of soaking in the tallest peaks east of the Mississippi River, the Black Mountains, just a few dozen miles to the northeast.

Shop and dine on Merrimon Avenue
Numerous shops and restaurants line Merrimon Avenue, which cuts straight through Grace and leads toward downtown. Locals can grab a slice of New York-style pizza at 828 Family Pizzeria and head to Rye Knot, a kitchen, brewery and distillery. The Hop Ice Cream Café has been serving tasty treats since it opened in 1978. Now under new management, The Hop offers a wide selection of cakes, ice cream, milkshakes, and more. For groceries, residents can choose between Ingles Market and The Fresh Market.

Easy access to all of the Asheville area
Grace is conveniently located 3 miles from downtown Asheville. Two bus routes with frequent stops run up and down Merrimon Avenue, allowing seamless and efficient commutes even without a car. Residents have easy access to nearby Interstate 26 and Interstate 240. These two highways offer a direct route to Asheville Regional Airport, located 17 miles south of the neighborhood.
Saturdays in Grace
On Saturday mornings, residents can head to the North Asheville Tailgate Market to shop for locally sourced goods, organic produce and flowers. Since 1980, the Tailgate Market has given farmers and small businesses an outlet to connect with their customers and communities. Shoppers can also enjoy the cooking demos, live music and dietitian seminars featured throughout the market.
