Why Live in Blair Villa-Poole Creek
Blair Villa-Poole Creek is a heavily industrial neighborhood in Southeast Atlanta that sits adjacent to the airport. “It used to be a really active neighborhood with stores and banks and everything,” says Shirley Nichols, the volunteer zoning representative for the city’s Neighborhood Planning Unit that represents the community. But starting in the 1980s, the airport bought out hundreds of homes and businesses that fell within its noise boundaries. Now, the only remaining residential section of the neighborhood is in the upper northeast corner. Blair Villa-Poole Creek is a mix of older residents, who have lived in the area for years, and families with young children. The neighborhood has an active community association, Southside Concerned Citizens. Coreen Dent, president of the association and a long-time resident, says the group just finished working with the city on a community development plan. “The vision for the community is to have more residences, new homes built, specifically workforce housing,” Dent says. The plan also calls for more restaurants, shops and family entertainment in the area. Today, the neighborhood has about 165 homes, with a median year of construction
