Things are changing in Thomasville Heights, a Southeast Atlanta residential neighborhood that offers a blend of longtime residents and new homeowners looking to be close to downtown. “It’s a thriving area for those folks who want to be first-time homebuyers, live in the city and be in great proximity to a lot of what Atlanta has to offer,” says Renee Giles, a real estate advisor with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices who’s sold homes in the area for 22 years. “It’s a great opportunity to find something more affordable.” Located about 7 miles from downtown Atlanta, the area consists mostly of single-family homes, and the north side of the neighborhood, once the site of the Thomasville Heights public housing development and the Forest Cove Apartments, is under redevelopment. According to Giles, the city has worked closely with the community to develop a plan for mixed-income single-family homes, townhouses and apartments on the site, as well as bring in more commercial and green space. Thomasville Heights’ ranch-style homes typically have around 1,100 square feet and sit on tree-filled quarter-acre lots. “You have larger front and back yards, so you’re not right on top of your
