Mission Viejo is a cherished slice of southwestern flair in a Coloradoan suburb. Look close at the structure of the Aurora neighborhood from above, and you can see the shape of a rose formed by the streets and trails within its square boundaries. Taking influence from the earlier planned community of the same name in California, Mission Viejo was developed in the 1970s with a Spanish-inspired aesthetic, commercial areas at each corner of the square for convenience and reliable access to Denver’s central areas. Spanish-influenced homes and modern classics along planned streets
Most homes in Mission Viejo date back to the late 1970s and early 1980s, while the neighborhood was coming together within the bounds of the community plan. The neighborhood’s earliest homes show the strongest influence from Spanish and Californian design, with tile roofs, adobe-style “slump” walls and ornamental arches adding flair to new traditional split-level and ranch-style homes. Later homes would place more emphasis on energy-efficient, contemporary design more typical of Colorado suburbs, alongside select townhome developments. Buyers can expect to find a two-bedroom townhome for about $350,000, with the neighborhood’s largest homes going for about $650,000 on the market. An average single-family house in the area sells for about $500,000.
Mission Viejo is an almost entirely residential neighborhood, with generously sized homes.
Additional living space above the garage is common in Mission Viejo homes.

Reliable learning at Cherry Creek Schools
Public school students in Mission Viejo attend schools within the Cherry Creek School District. Mission Viejo Elementary School, located within the neighborhood on Alicia Parkway, offers more than 10 clubs for students to choose from. The school holds a B grade on Niche and has a student-teacher ratio of 18 to 1. Laredo Middle School earned a B-plus grade with Niche users. The A-ranked Smoky Hill High School provides 14 Advanced Placement courses for students to earn college credit at participating universities and lets students enroll in in the rigorous International Baccalaureate diploma program.

Enjoy an outing at Mission Viejo
Close to the heart of the community, Mission Viejo Park is a 21 acre park with four baseball/softball diamonds and access to the West Toll Gate Creek Trail. Residents can also reserve the park’s shelter for events, take the little ones to play at the playground or stop by the community’s memorial garden. Just south on the other side of Alicia Parkway, La Parquita Park has tennis courts and 3 extra acres of open space for residents. To the west near Mansfield Avenue and Idalia Street, Los Ninos Park offers another playground and a network of paved trails between the west side of the neighborhood. Residents are also less than 2 miles away from Meadowood Park, Meadow Hills Golf Course and a range of other parks in nearby neighborhoods.

Stores and dining along the community's corners
The Mission Viejo community’s planned layout means that residents are never too far from reliable dining and shopping choices. The neighborhood’s southwest corner at Chambers Road and Quincy Avenue hosts a Domino’s Pizza location. Following Quincy Avenue to the southeast corner near Buckley Road leads to King Soopers, Lowe’s Home Improvement, Target, Dollar Tree and Petco. Food options nearby include Sushi Totoro for all-you-can-eat nigiri and maki, Endless Grind for micro-roasted coffee blends with Ethiopian tradition, and La Reyna Azteca for tacos and tortas. Familiar dining options include McDonald’s, Little Caesar’s, KFC and Chipotle. More options for shopping and eats are available on the northwest side of the area, including Walgreens and Big Lots stores and restaurants like Winchell’s Donut House and the Wing Hut.

Roll into the weekend on skates or shoot some billiards
Just northwest of the neighborhood, Skate City Aurora gets roller skating and inline skating enthusiasts of all ages moving. Residents can get some reps in at Powerhouse Gym Aurora or sip craft beers at Dry Dock Brewing Co. Locals searching for a laid-back atmosphere after work can find it at G'Ducks Bar, which offers pool tables, watch parties for football games and karaoke two nights a week. On the southeast side of the neighborhood, the Wreck Room offers multiple escape rooms for residents to test their puzzle-solving skills.
Transportation
The Mission Viejo community is situated about 19 miles from the city center in Denver. Locals can use Hampden Avenue and CO-83 for the most direct route. Mission Viejo residents are close to multiple Regional Transportation District stops along Buckley Road to the east and Hampden Avenue to the north. For medical emergencies, The Medical Center of Aurora is about 7 miles north. Denver International Airport is 23 miles northeast of the neighborhood.
