Enjoying the best of ATX
With the instafamous ATX sign and the ultra pink Taquero Mucho, the Market District packs a lot inside its eight-block radius. In the heart of Downtown Austin, the small, dense neighborhood contains stunning skyscrapers and apartment buildings. “There’s really a lot of great residential options like Spring Condos,” says Denise Bodman, a Realtor at Prospect Real Estate who has been selling in the area for over a decade. Here, residents can easily walk, or snag an e-scooter, to visit nearby galleries, art museums, bars and parks. They have access to a variety of cuisines; everything from food trucks to five-star restaurants.

A night out on West Sixth Street
West Sixth Street has become Downtown’s most popular spot for dining, shopping and nightlife. Staples like Bookpeople and Waterloo Records and Videos have been around since the 70s and 80s. Little Woodrow's and Austin cult classic, The Grove Winebar and Kitchen, have locations here. When the sun sets, nightclubs like Mayfair become the hottest place to be. For a cozy night in, residents of this neighborhood live within walking distance of a Trader Joes and Whole Foods Market — the location at Sixth Street and North Lamar Boulevard was the first store the chain opened in 1980, so it’s practically a historic landmark. “You can’t go wrong with walking around Whole Foods and visiting the shops within there,” says Bodman.

Residential skyscrapers and apartment buildings
The neighborhood consists of high-rise condo and apartment buildings. Some are very recognizable, like The Independent. It’s a 58-story tower that resembles a game of Jenga. Homes here offer panoramic views, concierges, fitness centers and pools. A 1-bedroom, 1-bathroom at Spring Condos will start just under $500,000. At Fifth and West Residences, a 3-bedroom, 3-bathroom will go for around $2,500,000.

A prime location for SXSW
The biggest event of the year for the Market District is South by Southwest, a world-renowned film, tech, and music festival. While shows, screenings, and presentations are planned all around the city, the Market District serves one of its prime locations, especially for some of the bigger speakers for the tech portion of the festival. In May and September, the Pecan Street Festival is a free two-day arts festival on the Sixth Street Historic District.
Kayaking in Lady Bird Lake
Shoal Creek Trail is a 4-mile path that winds through downtown Austin. The bottom portion of the trail, a section that cuts directly through the Market District, was recently repaired and upgraded. It's designed to provide a quiet respite from the congested streets of Downtown. The path leads residents directly to Lady Bird Lake where locals enjoy jogging, biking, kayaking and stand up paddle-boarding.

Avoiding traffic by walking to work
The Market District may appeal to professionals who would like to walk to work to avoid driving on Austin's traffic-clogged roads. As the number of tech startups and residential high-rises have increased across the city, many residents avoid driving Downtown because of how dense and crowded the city has become. Market District residents, though, have an advantage because they live in the middle of the action in a very walkable location.
