Like many other parts of the city, it is seeing a surge in popularity with new residents looking to get the most for their money. “It’s up and coming, a lot of new construction and renovations happening there,” says Realtor Rasheed Oridedi with Keller Williams, a lifelong resident of Baltimore. “It’s a lot of smaller row houses, so street parking is most common. But there are some houses that have backyards where people can park in driveways.” The neighborhood is most popular for its convenience to public transit, affording residents quick access to downtown Baltimore and a reasonable commute to Washington, D.C. Despite a CAP Index homicide score of 10 out of 10, higher than the national average of 4, Rosemont’s overall score sits at a 5 out of 10, and the neighborhood continues to attract investment from the city and from young first-time homeowners, contributing to the revitalization of its community.

Getting around in West Baltimore
Rosemont is situated between two major thoroughfares. North Avenue sits to the neighborhood’s north, which is connected to the southern Pulaski Highway by Hilton Parkway. The CityLink Gold bus line runs east along North Avenue from Rosemont to The Shops at Canton Crossing in just under an hour. “The location isn’t bad in terms of being able to get around the whole city,” Oridedi says. “The West Baltimore train station is about a 5-minute drive.” Residents can catch the Marc Orange Line at West Baltimore station and arrive at Baltimore Washington International Airport in 35 minutes.

Traditional Baltimore row houses make up most of the housing stock in Rosemont. Prospective buyers can select red brick homes with neat rows of windows on front facades or opt for units that feature roofed front porches and curved bay windows. “A good portion of the houses in the area were built around the 1930s,” Oridedi says. “As opposed to some other parts of the city, where they’ve knocked down houses for apartment complexes, there’s a big focus on renovations of the vacants.” Prices start at around $100,000 and climb as high as $185,000 depending on number of bedrooms and condition of the property. There are also duplexes available on the north end of the neighborhood, with prices starting at around $167,000 and rising to $230,000.

Between Mondawmin and Mr. Bobby’s Chicken
Residents can shop for groceries at the Save A Lot in Walbrook Junction Shopping Center, where they will also find takeaway restaurants and a convenience store for daily necessities. Mondawmin Mall is just 1.5 miles across North Avenue and is home to over 100 retailers and a Shoppers supermarket. Children in Rosemont are zoned to attend Belmont Elementary School, which scores a C-minus from Niche and offers several afterschool programs, including robotics and a civic engagement club. They then proceed to Katherine Johnson Global Academy, which serves grades 3 through 8 and is a gifted and advanced learning site. Students may then apply to their choice of the city’s high schools. Edmondson-Westside High is the closest and is also rated C-minus. The Edmondson-Westside Red Storm basketball team recently won back-to-back state championships.
