Bars, breweries and buses in Downtown Beaverton
Downtown Beaverton is where people go when they want to live downtown, but don’t want to deal with traffic and the other downsides of large city centers like that of Portland. It’s also one of the few neighborhoods in the Greater Portland Area where locals can survive without owning a car. With happening breweries, trendy bars and buses, residents are never far from their next destination. “I know it’s cliched, but location, location, location,” says local realtor Sarah Johnson. “It has the largest farmers market in the area, and a lot of hip restaurants in Portland are opening second locations in Beaverton.”

Burgeoning Beaverton food scene concentrated downtown
Unlike many suburban shopping districts, Downtown Beaverton is easy to navigate on foot, with shops and restaurants connected by sidewalks and bike trails. Residents can pick up groceries at one of the neighborhood’s many supermarkets, which range from Oregon mainstay Fred Meyer to organic-first Natural Grocers and popular international spot Asian Family Market.
As for local dining, there are too many impressive options to list here. Suffice to say, multiple online guides recap Beaverton’s burgeoning food scene, and most of the restaurants included are in the downtown area. Casual diners grab a quick bite at one of the 30 food trucks at BG Food Cartel, sample some Caribbean cuisine at Borikén or head to one of the area’s many stellar restaurants, like ultra-authentic ramen spot Yuzu. If you are trying to impress a date—or just feel like dressing up—elegant eatery Decarli offers rustic Italian dishes made with local ingredients. Those in search of an after-dinner drink will also be overwhelmed with options. Here are two of the best: Westgate Bourbon Bar & Taphouse has one of the best whiskey selections in the west Portland suburbs, while Breakside Brewery is for the beer lovers, with food trucks that offer options to complement every brew.
And the area is still growing. “There’s constantly construction and things being remodeled,” says Karris Olague, the assistant general manager of TownePlace Suites by Marriot in the neighborhood. “Everything is getting newer and nicer.”

There’s no lack of grocery shopping options in Downtown Beaverton. Especially not when the Beaverton Farmer’s Market is in town. An average of between 15,000 and 20,000 shoppers come out every Saturday from April to November, with the market’s early season starting in February and March. Shoppers browse farmstead cheeses, homemade fruit jams, cheerful flower bouquets and fresh, local produce while Beaverton artists liven up the market with music.

Beaverton City Park and Library Park
The Beaverton City Park and Library Park, which face each other, are the center of outdoor action in Downtown Beaverton. From the farmer’s market that rolls into the adjacent parking lot every spring to the splash zone that keeps kids squealing in delight on hot summer days and the Christmas decorations that illuminate December nights, residents celebrate the seasons in the sister parks. The community also offers a public indoor pool with a nominal entrance fee at the Beaverton Swim Center.
Immediately behind one of the neighborhood’s largest condominium complexes, the Patricia Reser Center for the Arts hosts a variety of performing artists in its modern white facility. Visitors browse the center’s art gallery, which features artists across the Northwest region, after their show.

Convenient living in The Lofts at the Round
Most residents of Downtown Beaverton—three quarters, in fact—have a lease, with a large majority of the property in the neighborhood used as retail or apartment complexes. A small pocket of houses in the southwest corner of the neighborhood accounts for the 6.4% of Downtown Beaverton that is composed of single-family housing. Mid-century ranches and Craftsman-inspired homes sit on the gridded streets, costing anywhere from $400,000 to $750,000.
Otherwise, modern condos with one or two bedrooms sell between $300,000 and $450,000. The Lofts at the Round, which sit above restaurants, a coffee shop and a trendy kombucha-bar-slash-plant-store, are a popular choice. Surrounding the Central Beaverton Train Station, the complex allows its residents to take the TriMet MAX light rail from their front door to Portland or Hillsboro.

Revealing the new Raleigh Hills Elementary School
Downtown Beaverton children are zoned for Raleigh Hills Elementary School, the second oldest school in its district. Future students will enjoy a brand new building once the elementary school, which earns an A-minus from Niche, is rebuilt starting in 2024. Until its classroom doors open in 2026, though, elementary schoolers will attend Greenway Elementary School during the interim.
Though Raleigh Hills Elementary teaches grades K-8, children can also attend A-rated Whitford Middle School for sixth through eighth grade. Beaverton High School, located within the neighborhood, earns a B-plus. There, students challenge themselves with Advanced Placement classes like music theory, Japanese and physics and prepare for the working world with career pathways in engineering, digital media, education, health and marketing.

Beaverton buses transport petered-out pedestrians
Southwest Hall Boulevard cuts between Library Park and Beaverton City Park, leading travelers north, where most of the neighborhood bars and restaurants are located. Locals weary from traversing the neighborhood by foot, or weary of driving their cars downtown, take the local bus. Though most commuters head to the Nike and Intel headquarters, those venturing out to Portland can be downtown in less than 25 minutes by getting on Route 217, which borders the neighborhood and connects to US-26.
