Why Live in Beloit

Like other cities with an industrial past, Beloit, Wisconsin, has faced challenges moving on from that history. For much of the 1900s, Beloit was home to various industries along the Rock River. When those jobs went away, the downtown suffered. Within the past ten years, that area has significantly transformed by repurposing old buildings. The force behind much of the change is Diane Hendricks, a billionaire businesswoman who grew up in a small town near Beloit and has invested her money into the city. “People here either love or hate her,” says Heidi Rose Anderson, a real estate agent with Century 21 Affiliated. “I think she’s done wonderful things for the city. It gave us a lot more options.” Hendricks made her fortune co-founded the ABC Supply Company, a roof and building materials distributor that's based in Beloit and one of the largest employers in town.
