A friendly suburb outside downtown Pittsburgh
There’s a lot more to life than taxes and death. And there’s a lot more to Bethel Park than it being Andy Warhol’s final resting place. Bethel Park is full of life with coffee shops, bars, restaurants and parks. The walkability is low due to its landscape but gives neighbors a sense of privacy, says Michele Belice, a Realtor with Howard Hanna Real Estate Services who has worked in the area for over two decades. “It doesn’t have that urban feel; You won’t be able to walk to get coffee, but you get the peace and quiet of suburban living,” she says. In Bethel Park, people want to know each other. “People are friendly with their neighbors, and a lot of people have been here a long time,” says Marsha Timblin, a circulation assistant at the Bethel Park Public Library. “They go to the same stores. They go to the same churches. Lots of different organizations work together when it comes to helping out people in the city.”

Drop cans off at Andy Warhol’s grave
Bethel Park promotes togetherness at its Summer Spectacular, a Fourth of July fireworks event. In the fall, South Park Community Day includes a parade, games and plenty of food vendors. During the Halloween season, the nearby Hundred Acres Manor is what’s largely considered one of Pittsburgh’s most compelling haunted attractions. Not quite as spooky is the gravesite of Pop Art icon Andy Warhol, which brings a steady stream of art enthusiasts throughout the year. They come and leave soup cans and other gifts to commemorate his most famous works. “There’s a smattering of gifts people have left. If you haven’t been up there, you should take a trip,” Timblin says. Thanks to a camera streaming Warhol’s gravesite 24 hours a day, it’s easy for people to see the grave from the comfort of their homes.

South Park, Whitling Park
Bethel Park is home to numerous recreational spaces. South Park takes up most of the neighboring community, South Park Township, and bleeds into Bethel Park. The park includes a nature preserve, playground and amphitheater. Wiltshire Park has a sandbox, splash pad, hockey rink and basketball courts. AHN Sports Complex at Cool Springs is a popular recreation spot that has indoor sports fields and a mini golfing course. Spencer Family YMCA is another go-to indoor sports and fitness facility. South Park Golf Course is the nearest public course, while St. Clair Country Club is the closest private option.
Cool Springs is one of the best sports facilities in the area and is right in Bethel Park.

Students belong to the Bethel Park School District, which Niche rates A-minus. Children can attend William Penn Elementary School, which earns an A, before advancing to Independence Middle School. The middle school receives an A-minus and is currently undergoing renovation to improve students’ learning experience. Kids may move on to Bethel Park High School, whose music program is considered a state leader. The high school earns a B-plus from Niche. Hillcrest Christian Academy is the go-to private school option. Churches in the area include Bethel Presbyterian Church, South Hills Assembly of God and Redeeming Grace Church.

South Hills Village covers a wide variety of retail tastes with staples like Target, Macy’s, and Sephora. There’s also an AMC Theater in the village.
