Historic family-owned cemetery 12 miles from Birmingham
Roosevelt, 12 miles from Birmingham, has everything residents need within a short drive. Nestled between the small towns of Midfield and Brighton, the Roosevelt community is a primarily residential area. “A lot is happening in the area,” says John Street, a realtor since 2017 with Keller Williams Realty. “It is not very far from Fairfield and the Midfield area. There is a new Amazon fulfillment center and a hospital offering lots of great jobs.” In 1972, the area was known as Roosevelt City, the nation's third-largest all-black city. Due to a lack of finances, the people of Roosevelt voted to be annexed into Birmingham in 1988. The community sits next to The Valhalla Cemetery, built to replicate the St. Louis Valhalla Cemetery by Jess and George Edwards in the early 1900s and has remained in the family for about a century.
The Valhalla cemetery is a historic funeral home with a fountain.
