Brandon is a community located in Hillsborough County on the west side of Florida. It is part of the greater Tampa-St. Petersburg metropolitan area. Homes here are a comfortable size, with 3 to 4 bedrooms and affordable prices. There are a variety of architectural styles available; many have stucco siding and a nice yard with grass and trees.
In the 1950’s, highway transportation was improved which improved access to Tampa. Because of this, Brandon became a bedroom community, and residential subdivisions were created. The first such area was Hill-Dale Heights. Rapid growth in housing has been seen in every decade since then, and new neighborhoods, such as Barrington Oaks East, Limona, Brandon Hills and La Viva have been added. There are many opportunities for outdoor recreation in and around Brandon. In addition to plentiful parks and public swimming pools, the shores of Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico are nearby. Boating, fishing and golf are popular activities here. Hiking, bicycling and ecotourism are widely enjoyed as well. Public schools in Brandon are excellent, and there are several colleges and universities within driving distance. With so many established neighborhoods and opportunities for fun, Brandon is a truly wonderful place to live.
Retail is the most common industry in Brandon, followed by construction, finance and professional jobs. Sales and office support jobs are the most common overall. Tourism, hospitality and education also provide many positions for Brandon residents. Well over 100,000 businesses in Brandon employ 10 or fewer people, which indicates that there are many entrepreneurs in the area. Plans are underway to revitalize Brandon’s downtown and attract new businesses while preserving the small-town feel. Getting around Brandon is easy; there are good thoroughfares and a public transportation system. As a bedroom community of Tampa and St. Petersburg, a large percentage of people here commute to the big cities for their work.
