Why Live in Brice Prairie

Brice Prairie is a sprawling peninsula with long, flat grasslands, scenic views and spacious yards, bordered by Lake Onalaska and the Black River. "In La Crosse County, in general, finding land to build on can be a challenge," says Brandon Haugen, a Realtor with Re/Max Results who has 21 years of experience selling in the area. "In Brice Prairie, though, it's nice to have space to build on as opposed to city lots that are a quarter-acre large." Only two roads connect the neighborhood to the rest of the county, giving Brice Prairie an air of seclusion, privacy and remoteness, as well as natural surroundings and uninterrupted views of the lake and corn fields. Bi-levels, split-levels and ranch-style homes from the 1960s through 1980s make up most of Brice Prairie, with prices ranging from $265,000 to $450,000. There are also a handful of homes built between 1990 and 2000, when the area saw an almost 80% growth in population, according to U.S. census information. These homes are more expensive, selling for up to $520,000. The median lot size is about 1.3 acres, and according to Haugen, "The whole Brice Prairie neighborhood in general has larger platted lots with a minimum of about
