A long-established community along the Manasquan River
“You know how in the old days, they said “All roads lead to Rome?’ Well, all roads in Jersey lead to Brielle,” says associate broker Joanne Botwinick of Berkshire Hathaway Fox and Roach. “It’s a quiet, laid-back town and an overall pretty perfect place to live.” Botwinick would know; she’s lived here for nearly 20 years. “A friend of mine would go on these long walks by the water and stumbled upon this peaceful borough. He immediately knew I would love it,” Botwinick says. “He was right.” Along a bend of the Manasquan River, the Jersey Shore borough supports a nautical lifestyle with marinas, private docks and waterfront restaurants. And aside from its riverfront amenities, Brielle has that one-of-a-kind togetherness. “It’s a personal feeling you get living in Brielle,” Botwinick says. “There’s a certain level of peace that I feel here.”

A day on the Manasquan River
Bounded by the Manasquan River, it makes sense that locals are often on the water. “You don’t live near the Shore if you don’t like the water,” Botwinick says. “Boating is a big part of the lifestyle here in Brielle.” While several homeowners have private docks, there are a few yacht clubs where boaters dock and fuel up. Boats file into the Brielle Yacht Club Marina’s orderly docks, and several residents hop off to grab a bite at one of the nearby restaurants. The Manasquan River Yacht Club has a few spots to dock, plus several amenities, like tennis courts and a pool, that sit behind the waterfront clubhouse. Also along the water is the Manasquan River Golf Club. The golf course has been around for just over a century. Its scenic course provides a challenge for golfers with views of the Manasquan. Locals also enjoy time outdoors at the community’s namesake park. Brielle Park has several sports facilities: a baseball field, tennis courts, a multipurpose field and sand volleyball courts. Plus, it’s a popular spot for community events. Snowman contests, Easter egg hunts, baseball clinics and Christman tree lightings occur at the park.

Queen Anne, colonials and Cape Cods
Brielle’s history dates to the late 1600s, deriving its name from the Dutch seaport of Den Briel. The community was originally an agricultural stronghold with a regional port, but the Gilded Age of the late 19th century brought the establishment of cottages, summer hotels and boarding houses. Brielle’s Gilded Age history is traced in the town’s Queen Anne-style houses and traditional colonials. The community also features ranch-style homes and Cape Cods, which were popular in the early decades of the 20th century. While square footage can range between 1,500 and 4,000, prices are consistently over $1 million. And homes along the Manasquan River are between $3 and $5 million and feature private docks with beach access.
Large colonial homes with manicured lawns can be found in Brielle.

Relaxed evenings at The Pig and Parrot Sandbar
Naturally, locals often dine or enjoy a drink along the water. The Pig and Parrot Sandbar is a Key West-themed bar that brings late-night vibrancy to the river, open until two in the morning. Adults enjoy tropical cocktails, live music and tasty seafood plates. Plus, visitors can order from the comfort of their boats. And if they just reeled in a fresh catch, the restaurant would cook it for them. And Shipwreck Grill is a favorite for fine dining. The restaurant features items like tuna tartare, branzino and sauteed halibut. Locals also enjoy Italian classics at La Mondina and Rella’s Italian Tavern. When locals want to grab groceries, they head to Stop and Shop or ShopRite.

Manasquan High has several centralized academies
Kids growing up in Brielle attend two schools from separate school districts. The first school students attend is Brielle Elementary School, the only school in the Brielle School District. The school serves kindergarten through eighth-grade students and scored an impressive A-minus on Niche. Students advance to Manasquan High School, part of the Manasquan Public School District. The high school hosts several academies that provide students with centralized studies in varying fields, and a few partner with local colleges and universities. For example, the Academy of Health Careers partners with Rutgers University to provide high schoolers with college-level courses. Niche gave the high school an overall A.
Brielle Elementary School serves students in grades pre-K through 5.

Navigating Brielle by land
While several residents enjoy water travel, they primarily drive to get around on land. “Brielle is close to all the major arteries,” Botwinick says. “The Garden State Parkway is up the road, just about five minutes or so, and Highway 18 is not far away either.” The heart of Manasquan is about a mile northeast. Hackensack Meridian Health Ocean Medical Center is about 5 miles away. When residents want to catch a flight, they often fly out of Newark Liberty International Airport, about 50 miles away.
