On Brooklyn Park’s east side, Monroe is a quiet, suburban neighborhood known for its midcentury-inspired homes. Half a mile from the Mississippi River and about a 15-minute drive to Minneapolis, Monroe also shares borders with neighborhoods known for food, entertainment and shopping. Monroe is mostly residential, with split-level and ranch-style homes on quarter-acre lots. Attached garages and fenced-in backyards are typical, though sidewalks are not. Homes are priced from the mid-$200,000s to the high $300,000s, depending on size and amenities. The median price for single-family homes is in the low $300,000s, beneath the national median of around $400,000. Monroe Elementary School is in the northern half of the neighborhood and has a grade of B from Niche. From there, students will attend Jackson Middle School, which has a B-plus. Older students will enroll at Champlin Park High School, which has an A-minus. The high school has an active athletics department with football, basketball, and hockey teams.
