Affordability and convenience in quiet Cleveland suburb
A quiet counterpart to Cleveland, Brunswick sits 27 miles southwest, beyond Cleveland's Outer Ring. This gives the small city a laid-back suburban feel while retaining convenient highway access to Cleveland, Akron and Hopkins International Airport. Originally a farming community, Brunswick earned its cityhood in 1960. The population boomed in the mid-20th century as people flocked to find affordable homes in the suburbs. Affordability is still a driving factor today. “Brunswick meets the needs of many different people,” says Jessica Chodaczek, Realtor with LoFaso Real Estate and a Brunswick local. “It’s 30 minutes from Cleveland and Akron, the housing stock is diverse, and the tax base is lower than neighboring Cuyahoga County.”
Some folks in Brunswick still prefer the old way of doing things.

Midcentury homes and new subdivisions
Brunswick's median single-family home price is $315,000, which is high for the Cleveland area but lower than the national median of $429,000. The population more than doubled in the 1950s and '60s, and midcentury architecture is common throughout the city. Ranch-style and split-level properties dot the area’s sidewalk-lined streets. Development is booming on the outskirts of town. Subdivisions like Ridgeline Chase and Meadows View have modern farmhouses and New Traditional dwellings with rambling exteriors on quarter-acre lots or larger. These can cost between $400,000 and $575,000. “The new houses are why Brunswick keeps growing,” Chodaczek says. “They offer more breathing room compared to the average Cleveland-area home.”
Ranch-style homes give Brunswick its warmth and charm.

The new school campus, which opened in the 2020-2021 school year, features two gymnasiums, a media center and STEM classrooms. Teens attend the B-graded Brunswick High, which has notable arts and athletics programs. The marching band earned a Superior rating at the state finals in 2024. Residents, whether Brunswick High School families or not, show up to support the football team at Friday night home games.

The Brunswick Recreation Center has open gym facilities, including a pool, basketball court, indoor track, and group fitness classes such as water aerobics.

Ohio Pie Co. has the original Ohio-style pizza
The Brunswick shopping and dining scene has the basics, but locals venture out of town for fine dining options. Fast food restaurants and locally owned eateries sprinkle Center Road and Pearl Road, the city’s two main thoroughfares. Ohio Pie Co. opened here in 2019 and has since expanded to a second location in Rocky River. It's known for creating Ohio-style pizza with cheese and toppings running to the edge. Giant Eagle, Aldi, Meijer, Marc's, European Specialty Food Mart and Home Depot are also in town.

Summer concerts on the lawn
Community spirit is strong, according to Chodaczek. "There are so many events where you can get to know your neighbors." Saint Ambrose Catholic Parish hosts a four-day Summer Festival, with cover bands paying tribute to pop and rock groups from across the decades. Brunswick Recreation Center hosts a summer concert series from June to August and a Christmas party for kids with a visit from Santa, carnival games and food. The city celebrates the Fourth of July with a parade, and The Brunswick Library hosts family storytime sessions, teen activities and adult book clubs.
