This postwar condominium is desirable for its location, amenities and more
Designed by architect Costas Kondylis and completed in 1985, the Bromley not only offers a prime Upper West Side location but also a wealth of amenities, full service and light-filled apartments. The postwar condominium stretches from 83rd to 84th street along Broadway, placing residents in between two of the city’s most beloved respites: Central Park and Riverside Park. Considering the condo’s presence along a major commercial artery, it follows that the Bromley is a mixed-use building. Current ground-level occupants include a Charles Schwab office and an AMC movie theater, but owners have a more private entrance along the tree-lined 83rd Street. Past the arched, green-hued doorway, residents enter an elegant rotunda lobby, where the round reception desk is adorned with a fresh floral arrangement each week.
A huge wellness center, a playroom and a top-floor terrace
While the lobby is well-appointed, prospective buyers may be more interested in the second floor, where most of the building’s 10,000 square feet of amenities live. The Bromley’s shared spaces aren’t necessarily swanky, but they’re incredibly comprehensive. The expansive fitness center is akin to a members-only gym, with weight and cardio zones, a dance studio, locker rooms with steam showers and private massage rooms, and occasionally, professionally led workout classes. What’s more, the weight room overlooks a 44-foot saltwater pool, a hot tub and a sauna. A large skylight runs the length of the indoor space, making it feel more open and airy. For residents with children, the perks are threefold: within the condominium, there’s a spacious playroom as well as a mini basketball court, and directly across the street, there’s the Children's Museum Of Manhattan. For those who like to entertain, a second-floor lounge (with an attached catering kitchen) can be reserved for private events, while the top-floor library is ideal for more intimate gatherings. An outdoor terrace wraps the library, offering spectacular views of the Midtown skyline and Hudson River. Other conveniences include storage and bike rooms, laundry facilities and a 150-car, valeted parking garage that offers third-party leases. A full-time door attendant, concierge and live-in resident manager are available to meet owners’ needs.
One- to six-bedroom apartments with a wide range of finishes
With 304 units spread across 23 stories, it’s no surprise that the Bromley’s condos are highly individualized. The vast majority of apartments have one or two bedrooms, but larger residences, many resulting from unit combinations, are also present. Some four- to six-bedroom units span between 2,500 and 4,100 square feet and include atypical spaces (by city standards) such as laundry, game and dressing rooms. For the most part, original condos include galley kitchens and reddish-brown marble-clad bathrooms. But many units were updated to varying degrees. For instance, a simple kitchen upgrade may include installing a pass-through window or quartz counters, while a larger renovation would swap the wall for an island and feature marble counters, custom millwork or top-rate appliances. Every apartment, remodeled or not, has large picture windows that allow plenty of natural light. A small number of residences have outdoor terraces, and those on high floors may have distant views of Central Park or the Hudson River.
Prices for one-bedroom units typically range from $930,000 to $995,000, while two-bedrooms are priced between $1.45 million and $2.6 million. Three-bedroom apartments, while limited, cost anywhere from $1.9 million to $2.63 million. Larger residences can command as much as $4.75 million.
Outdoor space, the arts, highly-rated restaurants and transit are a short walk away
The Bromley, located near the heart of the Upper West Side, offers proximity to the neighborhood’s best offerings: parks, cultural institutions and a thriving dining scene. Just two blocks west, Riverside Park has playgrounds, dog runs and a waterfront path, and three blocks east, Central Park has 843 acres of green space and recreation. Nearby, the American Museum of Natural History is cornerstone to the neighborhood, as is Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, farther away. In either direction from the condominium, Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue both have dozens upon dozens of markets, cafes, eateries and bars, including mainstays like Zabar's and Barney Greengrass, as well as newer hits like Jacob’s Pickles and Elea. Transportation is also convenient, with the 1 train stopping three blocks north and several buses running along Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue. Two crosstown buses, the M79 and M86 operate nearby, as well. For drivers, the Henry Hudson Parkway is accessible less than 1 mile from the condominium.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
