Hembstead’s stately homes
Stately Colonial Revival houses are the norm in this predominantly residential neighborhood. “They’re mainly executive-style homes,” says Beth Belcher, a Realtor with Re/Max who has 15 years of experience in the Charlotte area. “Which is to say, they’re traditional two-stories with full brick siding and kind of a formal look to them. Some of them have walkout basements and parcels close to half an acre.” Architecturally, these homes can be considered Colonial Revival. Newer homes follow New Traditional designs with shake and shingle, vinyl and faux stone facades, sometimes featuring diagonally braced garage doors mimicking barn doors. Whatever the style, most homes tend to offer at least four bedrooms and 3,000 square feet of interior space. Houses don’t come on the market often, but when they do, they’re often swept up within 4 days. Prices tend to range from $700,000 to $1.1 million.

She also highlights Link & Pin, a formal steakhouse serving up charred Pittsburgh rare steaks and decadent desserts. “They have a seven-layer chocolate cake that people say is fabulous,” Belcher says. Residents can easily get their shopping done at the Arboretum, too, which features a Walmart, Harris Teeter, Barnes & Noble and Petco, among other stores.
