Lincoln Park is a popular choice for tourists and homebuyers

Lincoln Park is one of Chicago's most well-known neighborhoods. While tourists and locals from around the city come to visit its namesake park, diverse local restaurants and nightlife, you’ll be living just down the block from everything. It’s the definition of a bustling city neighborhood with all the activity, but the neighborhood streets feel calm with plenty of trees. Whether you are buying a home, looking for a high-rise condo or renting, Lincoln Park has plenty of options.

Visit Lincoln Park's beaches, museums and trails

Lincoln Park is a big tourist attraction, but locals also love to hang out here. There’s so much to do and visit, including:

  • North Avenue Beach: While Lincoln Park has a couple of beaches, this one is closest to the neighborhood.
  • Lincoln Park Zoo: In addition to exhibits, the zoo also has events, like the annual ZooLights every holiday season.
  • The museums: The Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum has garden and animal exhibits, while the Chicago History Museum teaches local history.
  • The golf course: You can golf at the course and driving range while taking in lake views.
  • The sports fields and courts: The park includes volleyball, tennis and basketball courts and various sports fields.
The Lakefront Trail goes through the park. It’s a paved trail that goes along the shoreline, heading up to Lakeview. Oz Park is a quieter neighborhood park, free from Lincoln Park’s tourists. It has a playground and tennis and basketball courts. In the winter, kids come sledding here.

Lincoln Park's diverse housing options

The majority of Lincoln Park residents are renters, but the housing is very diverse. “You have a mixture of different types of housing,” says broker Millie Rosenbloom with Baird and Warner and longtime Lincoln Park resident. “We have townhomes. We have condos. We have some rentals. I like the mixture.” High-rise apartment complexes and condos overlook the lake. Single-family homes range in style from brick rowhomes and brownstones to Victorians and Italianate houses. There is also some new construction, and some builders will buy two lots to offer bigger homes. “In order to get the zoning to build a bigger house, they’ll either have decks on their garages or their rooftops,” says broker Debra Dobbs with Compass, who has also lived in Lincoln Park for a while.

Prices are low for condos, but high for single-family homes

Lincoln Park’s price points are all over the map. The high-rise condos range from the low $200,000s to the low $600,000s, but some can go into the millions. Meanwhile, single-family homes typically range from $1.5 million to $3 million. For the most part, prices are lower than in other neighborhoods, like Sheffield & DePaul and Old Town. It is still more expensive than Lakeview East.

Plenty of restaurant and nightlife options in Lincoln Park

  • Sandwiches and milkshakes: For an old-fashioned malt milkshake, you can stop in R.J. Grunts.
  • Steak and seafood: If you're feeling more classy, Gemini and Mon Ami Gabi are great dinner and date spots.
  • Fondue: Geja's Cafe centers around fondue, and there are melting pots at every table.
  • Pizza pot pie: Chicago Pizza and Oven Grinder Co. bakes its pizzas like a pot pie instead of flat.
After a nice dinner out, you can catch a concert or show at one of Lincoln Park’s music venues. Park West hosts a lot of smaller musicians and comedy shows. The Greenhouse Theater Center has a few stages inside and has shows for various plays and musicals from local and touring groups.
